V 4 & Rotary SPL & Sounds Alive Sound Off Auckland Nationals January 2016

Arriving at the venue just after 7am, I knew the day was going to be a scorcher and I was not wrong!

With the Gazebo, PA gear, PC, and lanes now setup I went through to check out the cars, and number, and mark the mic placement. Looking at the setups people had it was also going to be a very LOUD day… again I was not wrong!

The day ran like a well-oiled machine with competitors and crowd working well together to help competitors to and from the lanes.
The days temperatures played a big part for a couple competitors causing amplifiers to go into thermal protection more than once over the day as they ‘demo’d’ their vehicles to the crowd, and pulled crowds in from far and wide.

My personal stand out competitors of the day had to be:

Firstly Shane Handcock in his Nissan Stagea wagon, with his Dual DC 18s powered by dual behemoth DC 7.5K amplifiers achieving a gut-wrenching 155.7dB somewhere in the mid 30Hz range! And going on to take out 3 standard classes, AND the TOP DOG award for the most dominant competitor of the day.

Secondly I would be amiss by not making mention of Anthony Latu and is beast of a Toyota Corolla also featuring two 18s, this time in a 4th Order wall, blasting out a 154.2dB in Extreme Bass Battle, and then coming back for the Extreme Bassheads NZ class to throw out a STAGGERING 30 Second running average of 152.7dB. Not only Did he blast out some awesome figures, he also blasted out some ear shattering demos drawing the crowds with his crazy roof mounted speaker enclosure!

HUGE Congratulations to all those that competed, and thank you for helping us, the organisers, put on another amazing event this year!

A grateful thankyou to all those that helped make the day the smooth running event it was!

A most heartfelt thankyou to the amazing sponsors and supporters of NZ dBDrag and these events! Digital Designs NZ, Abtec NZ, Directed New Zealand, and personally, Ashley Burrell, without your continued support of these events, they just simply would not be!

To all that could not make the day, you missed an amazing day of bass, music, and friendship! Please, be sure to be at the next NZ dBDrag event in association with 4 & Rotary New Zealand!
