Digital Designs S-Box Product Review

Right, now this is a very cool idea and again DD Audio pulled something right out of the box and called it S-Box. I guess that name means sound box?? and a little one at that.

First thought was wow!! this could be very cool and with no instructions I started to play and try to suss out how it worked, not saying that wasn’t fun 🙂 With that in mind I started with a Bluetooth connection via my iPhone 5 and streamed some of my favourite tracks….

Ok time to see what DD Audio themselves have to say about this product, see below…

Description for S-Box:

The S-Box Bluetooth Speaker system allows you to enjoy your music anywhere and everywhere, and do it with style. With its anodized red aluminium housing and black cloth face it actually looks like high-end piece of audio equipment; unlike similar products that look more like a kid’s toy. Even though it weighs in at just a little over 1lb, the S-Box is anything but light on sound.

Specifications:

S-Box features two Kevlar cone 40mm drivers loaded into a tuned port, front firing enclosure, that deliver crisp mids and highs and solid low end. In addition to Bluetooth, you have the option of connecting your audio source by simply jacking into the 3.5mm audio input with the supplied cable. Adding to the S-Box’s portability is a rechargeable lithium battery that when fully charged provides enough power for up to 8 hours of audio enjoyment. To top the extra features, there’s a built in microphone that allows the S-Box to double as a handsfree speakerphone.

Now back to the review;

I loaned the S-Box to my son about two weeks ago, he loved that he could use the Hands Free Bluetooth feature when his Mum called, the built in mic and speakers preformed well and sounded great. The other big plus for him was the portability, he used it with his iPad and iPhone at home and in the car, his words were Hey Dad I can “just grab it and go”.

I must say the sound this little unit can produce is truly outstanding considering its size, volume wise it’s not going to rock the house but still it’s presence will be heard with quality sound.

Pros: Great sound all round, Bluetooth hands free feature is a great plus.

Cons: Does not come in a twin Z10″ Subwoofer model (Hey DD Hint, Hint)

The Verdict: I must admit my first thought was I’m not sure what use it would have, but now after playing around with the S-Box I do like it and the battery life is really quite incredible. Sound wise it has that DD Audio bass you’d expect. Clarity and attention to detail is there to must say yes I would buy one, great for personal time i.e.; Home Office, BBQ’s or just laying around. I do think it’s a great option for those times that you just don’t want to have a set of headphones on and don’t want to fire up the Home Audio system. Again a great job from the guys at Digital Designs.
